Car is running out of breath/ other simple probs.

Well, now onto the newest problem... or one I haven't noticed until I quit driving the car so much.

I get back in town and I hopped right in the babybeast. She fired right up but was idling at about 1.9k... if I blip the throttle it settles back to its normal idle... it does this pretty frequently, its just annoying, sometimes it'll do it, sometimes it wont...

next problem.

In all gears at about 3.5-4k the car just won't get out of its own way.

I have the Kent cam a great exhaust system and and K&N's...

I can't seem to figure out what the issue is. I'm guessing a fuel delivery problem. do you think it could be as simple as a fuel pump or a fuel filter, or is it an issue with the carbs.

Lastly, while oiling the carbs yesterday, I realized that both oiling caps didn't come completely out, you can feel one pull the piston deal up or push it down, but it doesn't come out, the otherone however... does. I think its been like this for awhile because last time my dad oiled them he said something about it.

Other than this its running fine, if I could figure these issues out, I could move onto getting my gauge lights working again... and I WOULD BE HAPPY.

Thanks again everyone!

Re: Car is running out of breath/ other simple pro

If one of the dampers is binding or siezed then that right there would give you something of a 'fuel delivery problem' on two cylinders.

You may be able to get it to the bench by removing the screws that hold the dashpot and lifting off the dashpot, damper and piston altogther -- taking care not to let things fall apart or to hit the needle. Then you can see what is siezed and work on separating them.

First I would try a figure out this oil cap problem, if that doesn't fix it, check the points and wires and if they check out O.K., check the fuel delivery. I just had the some problem with my TR4. The previous owner added an electric fuel pump. It turned out the electric fuel pump was failing, but not completely gone. It was putting out about half the needed fuel, so it would idle fine, but as soon as I got up in speed it would sputter and miss. I added a new electric fuel pump that put out 2.5-4.5 psi and so far so good. It's only been one day, but the car runs completely different and I can get up in the RPMs and not have any problems. Good Luck

I once had a mini that acted exactly like that at the upper rev range, turned out to be the points condenser was bad, changed it and it ran like a top.
FWIW

Hi,

Assuming all the problems you mention *might* be symptoms of one fault, I'd start by looking at the carbs as Geo suggested. (Except for the gauge light problem, of course.)

Yes, if the carbs prove to be okay, then it's time to look further at the fuel pump and ignition.
