Ok I've got a couple of cameras - one Digital camera (with MPEG) and one DVD Handycam video camera. Both are great cameras but neither can deal with wind noise at all. Especially with the top down in an open cockpit.

So my question what type of external microphone can I use? The digital camera doesn’t have a mic jack but the video camera does. Any suggestions on what type of mic to get and what I need to do to cut down on the wind noise.
 
At the very least, a strip of Saran wrap over the (mic) hole will do a decent enough job on the digital.
I suffer the same problem, but noticed for some reason that the wind noise gets <span style="font-style: italic">better</span> closer to 100mph.
For engine noise, I stuck a $3.99 mic in the passenger side foot well, and it's good enough.
 
The whole reason for that "foam ball" end on broadcast mikes is to baffle wind noise! Maybe a small "Nerf" ball would work as a substitute or a small patch of foam over the mike aperature on a camera!! IMHO Saran wrap would inhibit sound recording or even create a "rustling" of its own!
 
My motor home has a $1500.00 back up camera with microphone. The microphone is useless with the engine running. Fairly dumb engineering, wouldn't you say? I believe it would pick up a flea, uh, you know what I mean. I actually have to shut if off to keep from driving us batty! They should have put in a noise canceling Mic. Their not that expensive, CB radios have them and they should incorporate them in anything that's around noise. You might be able to get a plug in one for your purpose.
