just baught 1973 mg midget. For the kife of me I can't find the reverse gear. could it be a tranny problem? Can anyone help?

Left, LEFT??? Really are you guys backwards?

Left???

'73 was still a 1275 = ribcase.

From Neutral to the right passed fourth and down. It will take a little extra umph, since it spring loaded.

Oh yes I forgot. Welcome to the forum and '73 is a nice year for a midget.

Oh, I just realized he said Midget, not MGB. Sorry! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

So uh, I guess I meant RIGHT! I guess. (never driven a Midget)

Try heck, give it a swat with the plam of your hand to the right and snatch it back. Hard to hurt it, swat it the first two times or so anyway.

Jack:

You have me laughing so hard. Since we have both done it hundreds of thousands of times, it is just so funny to hear your description "swat with the palm of your hand to the right and just snatch it back".

So true and descriptive, but we probably forget our first few times doing it.

Just trying to make it easy on the poor sole. Many many Gymkahanas and such will improve your technique to no end. In fact it can be done while still rolling er slideing.

Gesh, and I am ready, sigh.

Here ya go Pat.

As needed, Slap snatch for reverse.

Of course wife uses both hands.

Are we still talking about the stick shift....er....on a midget....um....a car, that is?

Jack:

Maybe she needs to get more of a back swing to increase her energy.

Anyway, a wife who drives a BugEye. I love her, she had me at the "cave". Mom used to drive Dad's Jag, keeper.

Ditch the luggage rack.

Update is that Jet appears to be the wrong size. Another post to come.

Lemme move this over to the Spridget Forum....

Are you hearing the click of the of the reverser light switch when it's all the way 'away' from you? If that doesn't make a noise, it might be possible to not hear that you are in a position to the snatch down.
What am I missing? How about the clutch? I know my foot has to be all the way depressed before I can get into reverse...

My truck is straight up
The Toyota a right & rear
The Elva is left & rear (Swat & Snatch)
The DeLorean is Pull the knob up....Then left & up
The backhoe is just back

It's a wonder I can make any of em go backwards /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Edit....I think I had a car where you would have to push the knob down......Can't remember what it was. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Reverse light switch, really. I can always tell it is in reverse when I let the clutch out.

A buddy picked up a nice '61 Spridget cheap because the new owner thought the trans was shot. It had the wrong shift knob on it, so the poor guy was looking for reverse up and left.
