TR2/3/3A Canister Oil Filters

Having a hard time buying an original style oil filter without paying $40.on eBay. Moss just cancelled my Back order. Are the spin on adapters worth while. Thanks in advance.

The spin-on adapter should be fine; I have one on my TR4A, and have no problems with it. It just redirects the oil flow appropriately for the spin-on filter. It does make filter changes easier and less messy.

BP Northwest, though, has original filters for $9.44:

The Roadster Factory also has them for about the same price. I'm surprised you have had trouble finding them.

Yes, there are suppliers besides Moss. Moss skates along as the default option for LBC parts, when there are other suppliers around, most of whom are far better. The Roadster Factory and BP Northwest are two. Rimmer Bros in the UK is another, also Revington TR in the UK. If you must go to Moss, you can get their parts through a distributor like the Little British Car Co. for about 5% less, although delivery will be longer. There are a number of minor suppliers, too, which you can find through an internet search, but they don't have the broad parts coverage of Moss and Rimmer.

I find the spin on filters just as messy as the canisters. They both get covered in oil as you loosen them. The advantage of the canister is it is that you get a chance to see how the inside of your engine is doing when you remove the core and rinse out the canister.

I’m with you. The spin on only, arguably, makes the oil change easier. Leaks are not reduced, as the interface is the same.

But I recognize there are many thoughts on this, and mine ain’t necessarily the right ones!

Xks had these on hand. Friend of mine had a leaker. But, when he returned it, he could not get a replacement as the person who manufactured them had passed. They are nice, but some are not compact enough to clear the sterring rod.
