Can you disable the navigation "driving lockout?"

I just picked up my 2005 S-Type R last week. It has the DVD based navigation. When parked I have access to all the navigation functions, but when the car is in "drive" many of the features are disabled. Is there a way to disable this "saftey" feature?
 
I don't believe that you can disable this feature. You will find similar features.....and more restrictive ones still.......on any luxury car that has the DVD-based navigation. This is a quirk that had to be designed in at the insistence of the corporate lawyers, and you won't be able to bypass it without trashing the entire system. The reasoning behind this is because the navigation system can be a major distraction, and if someone had a shunt whilst using it, guess who is the first one they will sue.....that's right, the manufacturer of the vehicle concerned! So that is the reason for that perticular complaint. Be grateful......those installed by BMW, Mercedes, Lexus and VW/Audi are even less user-friendly. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
I realize the saftey intent of the feature but it is a PITA. I know that both VW and Mercedes vehicles have this feature but it can be deprogrammed with the use of a data-code reader and writer (VAGCOM for VW). I'm wondering if such a device exsists for Jaguars. Besides my girlfriend is the one pushing the buttons while in the passanger seat...I would rather listen to my Jag give directions than her.
 
Yikes! With a bit of searching and asking how to reprogram the car...I found out that the navigation lock-out as well as almost every computer controlled function can be selected and rewritten with the right tool and software. Any Jaguar dealer can write code, but for obvious reasons is not going to...so that leaves the independent garga owner. Autologic makes a diagnostic tool that is also able to write to Jaguars and change pretty much any computer code from engine parameters to electronic parking brake operation, and includes all navigation functions. The catch is that this is a $10,000 (US Dollars!) piece of equipment. So the scenario that I'm pursuing is one of offering an independent garage a flat sum of money to do a little custom work on the Jag. Anyway, just some information for you all.
