The seats in the '71 are in good shape except for three cigarette size holes in the driver seat. Is there somthing I can use to repair these so that they won't open up any larger?

Might want to get one of those vinyl/leather repair kits(Canadian tire carries some) I've never used it so I can't really say much, but it's worth a shot.

I saw that at C. Tire, but I think I would have to take the seat cover off to use that kit. I was kinda thinking of something the would melt right into the hole. That may be my only option I suppose.

Those weird seatr kit's do work - to some extent... While growing up, my mom (happy mother's day) melted a brown crayon and blended it into a small rip in a fake leather jacket so well that I only figured it out a couple years later.

But I think some heart has to go into the job. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had a 3-corner tear in my vinyl top. My friend is an upholsterer and I asked him what to do. He brought me a tube of material that worked great.
It is "VIP" Vinyl/Leather Repair.A company called, PLASTI DIP INTERNATIONAL, P.O.Box 130, Circle Pines, MN 55014 800-969-5432. Free call, ask them what to do.

I've used the usual FLAPS vinyl repair kit several times. Black is by far the easiest to work with as the biggest challenge is getting a credible color match (beige is tough).

The tool in even the cheapest kit works fine (the cheap one you have to heat the tool with a torch or such rather than having and electric tool). The heated tool causes the goo to set up and imprints a texture into the vinyl. The kit also includes some patches you can work into and behind the hole if you need support but for a couple of small marks this may not be necessary. If in doubt practice on some old vinyl.
