Can I drive with dipstick pipe in sump?

Hi guys,

Can I drive with the dipstick pipe in the sump, it was a bit loose and as I touched it it dropped into the sump. can I drive the car like that?

I would not.

It could easily get churned up in the oil and destroy the oil pump pickup, the strainer and other stuff.

Best to drop the oil pan and get it out....not a difficult job.

Thanks, I'll probably drop the sump pan. I'm really a bit [censored] off with myself as i got a 3 day tempory permit to drive it on the road and now I have to do this!

Shoot, might take an hour if you mess around.

Dropped the sump last night and found the pipe , was a plastic one and distinctly looked like the extension of the typical pint gearbox oil bottle's extension.

I have a metal one now.
