I think I just bought a Honda Civic, 1991 type. $2100 for my granddaughter to use to go to school and work. She graduates from High School in four weeks.

This is a four door with all elec windows doors etc etc. Everything works as advertised, new exhaust system, fuel pump, tires, brakes and such. Even the A/C works well.

This is from my favorate repair shop just up the way and Bob knows it is for my Granddaughter, 30 day full warnety and such. They, he says have been clear through it and all is well, 155K on the engine. Have not driven it yet, will this afternoon with wife. For 15 years old it looks great both in and out.

The minimal experience I have had with Hondas was pleasant, and my buddy has had an Accord for years-has something like 250K on it with no major issues.
 
I have owned several Hondas, and they are rock solid cars. A well maintained one will go forever and ever and ever. My last Honda was an '81 Civic with 225k miles and it was HARDLY well maintained. Some guy is probably still driving it today.

One thing that you will want to check is the timing belt. They are a total bear to replace on a Honda, but if they break while the car is running it will bend the valves. If the seller cannot provide a record for the belt being replaced, you may want to drop the roughly $250-$500 it will cost to have it done. Or, if you like bloody nuckles, do it yourself. Also, if I remember correctly, the water pump is turned by the timing belt. You may consider replacing it while you are under there.
 
It'll likely be fine, Jack. This would be a 1500 I presume? One of my friends bought his '85 new, and it now has 225K and runs just fine. No major work done, an alternator or two, O2 sensor a few years ago, one side CV joints/shaft at 200K... Timing belts can be a bear, but not all THAT bad considering the intervals. And absolutely change the waterpump when you do the belt... your friends at the shop will tell you when it was done last, I'll bet. May I come live with you? Just to back up what morris said, gotta check the timing belt. civics are good cars, they are bullet proof reliable, and only some components of the car are costly to fix. and most of it can be repaired yourself, don't waste money taking it to a repair shop, unless you are an impatient person, there are things on civics that make british engineering seem simple, but you can't find a more practicle A to B car than a Civic. but once any car gets to the high 6 figures in mileage, things have to be done. my dad has an 89 dodge Omni with almost 400k on it, and its gone through 3 transmissions 5 timing belts, and more sparkplugs than I can count, but that thing starts with every turn of the key, and it looks like junk now, but it still runs.
 
i had a 78 civic...the motor was the last thing to fall apart....; ) not really..sold running for $200....
hondas are very persistant....go for it
 
I've got a 2004 CR-V, though a while back I never thought I would buy a Honda. I've got to admit, they last and last. Ditto on the timing belts though, you don't want that to break.
