Ok this has been bugging me since the engine was pulled last year. It showed up under the car right after the engine came out. It's also seems to vanish and then reappear at random. Put it in a bag after it was found then disappeared till December. 1 day later gone again only to show up again today where I was able to get photo graphic evidence of its existence. I also remember seeing this part on the MG is born series but they did not show its location.

Doesn't look like any shift lever bushing I've ever seen!

It's an interdimensional pilot bushing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I wouldn't worry about it... when it disappears again, it'll return to where it's supposed to be. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

On the bottom of the shift lever of my 1978 MGB there is a nylon bushing that looks EXACTLY like this...discoloured and all...perhaps a picture with something next to the part in question to give a relative scale would help.

The shift lever bushing is *about* 5/8" tall and *about* 5/8" in diameter....

FWIW

Rick - you're probably right - I know what they look like, just never saw a red one before..all the ones I've seen are clear or slightly yellowish.

Maybe it was upgraded to a poly bushing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It sure looks like a shift lever bushing to me! Never saw a red one though? Is it the same size? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gifPJ
