IMO, the Camaro concept car is a modern interpretation of the original .. they tried to push the envelope quite a bit and although the end result isn't quite right (I find it busy in places and overall too aggressive)I give the designers an A for effort. The Challenger concept by contrast is safe ... looking very much like the original that has been cleaned up by a custom tuner/builder. Since it looks so much like the original more people are going to be comfortable with it and like it but it really doesn't push the brand into a 2006 vehicle.

All I can say is: it's the ugliest Camaro ever...and it's exactly what I'd expect from GM at this point.
 
It was on the front paper of the paper here yesterday....apartently a bunch of Quebecers are P.O'ed about the fact that the new Camaro will be produced in the USA instead of Quebec where it was perviously....Although it's not a smooth looking as the Challenger it's about time we finally got a new Camaro....I am a member of some clubs where petitions(and rumors) have been circulating for years....Remeber this is just a concept...hopefully the production Camaro will be a little more like the Camaro we remember.
 
YUCK! Almost looks like an Dodge...oh, wait - isn't one of the bosses at GM an old dodge man?
 
It looks like it was influnenced by the Cadillac Division.

Well, the new Mustang is a Modern-retro of a circa 69 Mustang. The Challanger is a modern-retro of about a 70 or 71 (the Mopar guys are gonna let me have it if I'm a year or two off) So it only is common sense that the new Camaro is the same idea. A modern-retro of the iconic 67-69 Camaro.
Hopefully for GM that is the overstyled "show" version. If not it's really gaudy.

Not nearly as nicely done as the Mustang and Challanger. I think both of those are some of the neatest cars to come out of detroit as of late.
I find it very amusing that the 'Stangs are trouncing the ricers at thier own game in the sport of Drifting

I just can't imagine that there will be that much of a market for the Camaro, especially if it is third to market behind the retro-Stang and retro-Challenger. It couldn't survive went it was only up against the Mustang, and it was actually a nice looking, very good performing coupe. (Build quality, that's a different story.)

The American pony car market was about 120,000 units in its entirety when the Camaro died. There's more competition for just a slightly larger pie. (Mustang did 160,000 in 2005 -- less than 1987 or 1988 with a nearly 10 year old car.)

Don't get me wrong -- I'd personally love to see more sports, pony and muscle cars. But I'd a) like to see -modern- cars to compete with German and Japanese built cars, and b)hope that GM and Ford would conduct their businesses in a more rational way, building class-leading products that are mass-market and profitable, not niche and break-even at best.

And once again -- wow that Camaro is UGLY! I'd rather have that rusty '68 sports coupe with a two-quart a week oil addiction over a new 2008 Camaro.
 
Thanks Sammy for saying its the ugliest Camaro ever. That was my first thought when I opened up my copy of Automobile last night. The new Challenger on the other hand is rather pleasing to my eye.

The award it won doesn't necessarily mean it's pretty, just that it evokes a brand image/concept in a new way. Additionally, one would have to consider what other cars really tried to update an existing brand. (Challenger is simply a resto-mod.)

Also take into consideration the list of judges, which is heavy on American-based designers, such dubious minds as Chris Bangle, and guys like Giugiaro who haven't penned a beautiful car in decades.

Well now, it's for a non-profit organisation of
Opthomologists, and if GM builds that homely beast,
I'm almost certian it *WILL* be non profit...
