Cam Bearings

I'm hoping some of the east coast guys can help me out here.

I've been to 3 machine shops in southern Maryland in an attempt to find a shop that can install cam bearings in a block I'm preparing for a winter install.

Anybody have a lead that would help me out? I'd be willing to drive about 6 hours in any direction (except east) from Washington , D. C. I will entertain a longer drive if required.

CDA Machine, Inc. in Webster, NY. Bill Crosby, president, did my head for me. Does a lot of LBC race engine preps. (585)671-5959

Go to a diesel shop.. some place that works on heavy trucks. Most smaller shops don't have the line bore equipment that you would need to install the bearings.

DLK in Russelton, PA. About fifteen miles east of Pittsburgh. Many people in our club take their engines there, so they are familiar with TRs.

Shannon is right. The reason most engine shops can not do cam bearings for our cars is the small diameter of the bearings and the length required to do our six cylinders is a combination they cannot deal with.

The diesel shops are used to doing longer engines and are more likely to have the equipment to do it. Even if they can not bore it they probably can hone it out. Which is how I ended up having mine done. Took longer and cost more but I do have cam bearings now and considering what the rest of the rebuild cost, I feel it was well worth it.
