Next step calipers. I took the calipers out, apart & then read Bentley. (its a guy thing!)Bentley says not to take calipers apart. Well too late, I already did. Am I done or can I still rebuild.

I know I should have pushed the pistons out with the pedal but I had already taken out the MC. Might not have been able to as the MC might not have been able to do it which is why it is rebuilt not.

Click on link for progress of other things and pictures of the calipers.

What can/do I do to rebuild these puppies?
If I can rebuild the calipers are there any special tools for re-assembly. Bentley lists a tool to but the seals back in.

I guess Bentley has a reason for saying not to disassemble the calipers, but I don't know why. I ordered rebuild kits from Moss and rebuilt mine. They don't leak and work great! I ran a fine polishing hone in them before assembly and had no trouble putting them back together. The same with the clutch and brake master cylinders. As far as the front hubs are concerned, I ordered new shim washers before reassemly as mine were in pretty bad shape. Getting the proper setting on the bearings, is a chore to behold as the nut has a proper torque setting and the shims allow for the right pressure on the bearings, which is practicly none. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif PJ

RE: dismantling calipers...

As I understand it, the reason is the bolt(s). BLMC spec'ed the caliper bolt as a TTY (torque-to-yield) part. If you renew the bolts and the square-cut caliper half seals you should be fine. Be sure to lubricate the new seal in brake fluid.

Looks like you might be glass-beading parts. Be sure to clean every last bit of grit from the caliper halves, including the internal fluid channels (use reinforced pipe cleaners soaked in solvent). Then clean them again. It gets everywhere.

Do not bead blast the bores. The only problem with disasembling the calipers is the seal that seals the two parts. be sure not to damage the seal or put in a solvent. This seal is not included in a rebuild kit. Used Castrol grease instead of brake fluid when you are redeady to re assemble.
Cheers, David.
