I read on another forum that California black plate bill number 462 passed on Oct 11, 2007. I cannot find out anything about it. This is something I have been pushing for years. Does anyone have any info on it?

I Checked it out on the web, Google, "SB" Bill 462 covers Hospice providers--??

"AB 462" Covers The YOM License plate Bill.--OK Now??- :Clarification of Bills

Speaking of Black plates,

I am sure that you are aware of the California YOM (Year of Manufacture)law that is on the books now....

In brief -- if you have a car that was manufactured pre 1962 you can use Yellow/Black plates on the car. I am in the process with my '57 A right now.

I purchased a SET (you must have two) of servicable plates on eBay that are not currently attached to anything and with a fee of $100 I will be able to use these plates, officially, once the approval and transfer comes back from Sacramento.

I had a set of Black/yellow plates that, per the DMV, are not permitted. If the car had been registered continuously over the years then the Black plates could still be used.. Mine had not been registered since 1974 so the DMV required new plates until I get through the YOM process..

I am unaware of any change to this law but there may be something in the works... Would be great for my 66 B....

OK..
The bill...AB462 A modification to the YOM Law that I mentioned above..

Passed-- I THINK
Will be in effect July 1, 2009.

AB 462, Villines. Vehicle: license plates.
Under existing law, an owner of a vehicle that is a 1962 or older
model-year vehicle may, under specified circumstances, utilize
license plates of this state with the date of year corresponding to
the model-year date when the vehicle was manufactured. A fee of $35
is required to be charged for the application for the use of these
special plates.
This bill instead would authorize this option for the owner of a
vehicle that is a 1969 or older model-year or the owner of a
commercial vehicle or pickup truck that is a 1972 or older
model-year. The bill would also increase the amount of the
application fee to $45.
The changes made by the bill would become operative on July 1,
2009.

tahoe healey,

Although you posted to Keoke....

THe date is on the bottome of the Bill. On my post above Keoke's the non-bolded sentence shows the expected effectiveness date... July 1, 2009.

As with all of these bills if it increases their revenues (in this case from $35 to $45) they will usually pass it...

Greg,

Other than us paying them... the government moves slowly. July 1, 2009 is the date stated in the text of the Bill.. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

My Healey’s a ’67 so I have to wait. Just seems like a long time, bummer. Maybe I can change the “7” to a “2” on my title, yeah that’s the ticket. No one would mind would they?

California black plates are going to become harder to find for those 62-69 years with this bill passing. I am going to get a pair now and wait for a couple of years... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

You are so right. I bought a set of Yellow/Black (pre 62) for both my 57 A and the 58 BN4 to take advantage of the current YOM... The plates cost me about $200 a set...

You can get the Black/Yellow plate sets for about half of that today but I am sure that the prices will go up as the time grows near...

By the way, make SURE that you get a pair in reasonable shape and that they are 'clear' through the DMV...BEFORE you lay out the funds....or you will have a very expensive wall hanging for your garage..

I lobby for an insurance company in the Northeast and that is usually the case with timing- to put enough distance between themselves and a bill, be it for election reasons, give some group time to challenge the new law, or an additional legislative session to 1. get re-elected with saying I passed this bill, then modify the bill after the election but before it goes in to effect, or 2. rescind the bill. Remeber, politics is nothing more than show business for the ugly.

I found a guy on Ebay selling plates, less than $40 a pair for black Cal. Obviously some are better than others, look closely at the photos. R and M International
