Californians crossing to Mexico for fuel?

Watching CNN today, the ticker was saying that people in California have been going to Mexico to buy gas. It says that they can save about $2.50 a gallon.

Here I thought that everyone in the world was paying crazy prices for gas. I guess it's just us and the Europeans.

I wish I lived close to the border.

Probably waste most of what was saved waiting in line at the boarder.

At the main POEs out here the average wait about 1.5 to 2 hours. Commute and/or Rush hours the wait is more like 3 hours plus. In fact I had to wait almost 5 hours once.

That’s three hours of idling getting ZERO mpg.

Not to say that folks ain’t doing it but I suspect that unless they’re just plain nuts – they probably have busness south of border and just fill up before heading north. Otherwise the wait wouldn’t make it worth it.

And send Peso's home.

Don't hardly seen worth it. Either scenario.

Boaters and the guys with diesel pickup trucks are doing this. Till the border patrol cracked down people were adding transfer tanks and bringing as much back as they could. People are still doing this but now the transfer tank has to be plumbed into the fuel system and even then they still might not get through.

I have several hundred pesos that came free with boxes of corn flakes a couple decades ago... they still are worth what I paid for them. :smirk:
