Cadillac Blues....

Well since my 'old reliable' the Camaro has been retired my 95 STS has been taking alot of the mileage, alot of city, bumper to bumper driving, so I guess this was invitable:
When shifting from 1st into 2nd the transmission seams to pop out of gear or something casusing a 'jerk'. It started yesterday night and got worse today. It also makes a slight jerk in the other gears but 1st/2nd is the worst. I am not planning on doing anything about it myself, and I've told my wife to take it in Monday, but I'd like to know what you guys think it could be.....So I have some idea of what I am in for. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif
The cars only got 117,000 km(roughy 80,000 miles) and is in perfect condition, it would be very difficult to find even a scratch on this car....So I'd hate to sell it, but then again it's 11 years old and guzzles gas. I do love the car as it rides like a cloud and accelerates like a sports car. But If the tranny's gone, I got a feeling a tranny isn't gunna be cheap, so if it exceeds the value of the car I might consider buying a new one(probably the CTS-V).

Check the mounts... engine and tranny ones.

Funny you say that. R&T is doing a long term test on the CTS-V and their only major complaint with the car thus far is...the transmission. Seems like a beautiful car though. However I'd probably go for the SRT-8 Chrysler 300 myself if I was in the market for something like that. Only thing I like better about the V over that car is the manual tranny.

I'm more of a SRT-4 or SRT-10 guy myself, but the new Hemi ain't bad /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

One engine mount has been replaced....apparently you have to remove the passenger side mount to and lift the motor up to get at the air condensor pump(which has once again seized up becasue we never use it)....CTS-V is just the first car that popped into my head as it's a little smaller than the STS and since I am driving it downtown thats a good thing. This is suppose to be my wifes car so when i mentioned replacing it she yelled 'Boxster'! My answer was to sell her MGA and I'd be glad to get her one, that idea didn't go over so well.
I really don't want to have to replace the STS yet, I'd like to get at least a few more years out of it. Plus I an also looking for a beater pickup(yeah, another car, but this is gunna be the last one for awhile).

Famous last words, and always true as long as your definition of "awhile" is flexible! ("but honey, it's been a whole week since I bought my last car...") /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well I talked to the mechanic today and so far it's not looking good....He's still got a few more things to look at but right now it looks like we're leaning towards a rebuild /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif.......This stuff kills me! The first 10 years I owned this car it did nothing but sit in the garage an toot around town, I've been driving it pretty hard this last year but still it's had way too many problems. I can understand some common wear items but I've had some issues that just shouldn't be happening at this mileage. I've had it with this thing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Once the tranny is fixed I am gunna drive it for another year or so get my money's worth and then I am done with it!
This really isn't a good time for car problems either...The TR6 still needs to go in to get the rearend clunk fixed, and I know my mechanic has been salivating at the thought to what my bill for that's gunna be since I told him about it. Every other car I've got needs some form of attention, it's times like these I really contemplate selling the entire fleet....Even my rental car(Hyundai Accent) has something wrong with it as it vibrates like nobody's business at anything above 60km.

I appreciate the caddy drives like a dream. Our Eldorado is a 1981 with the 4,6,8 option.Never had any problems after 157000 Ks or just about 100,000 miles. No rust and beautiful white leather interior almost like new.Carpets just about perfect.Have had this car for 20 years. Did need to strip the lacquer and repaint.always 21 MPG on the highway and we don't look at the MPG for city driving.Have tried to sell for the last couple of years but with the gas prices no one wants a big boat.Have a friend with the big Lincoln with every factory option and no can sell either.May just have to drive it forever.Maybe Chrysler will give me lots of money to trade on a new 300.HA

Well I am in a bit better state of mind tonight.....Turns out that it was a computer problem, still an expensive fix...but not as bad as I originally thought.

The 81 Eldorado is a beautiful looking car...I love those old tanks, and the white leather makes it that much better.

Re: Here We Go Again...Cadillac troubles

Well it's back in the shop....My wife got in it this morning, computer made some weird readings about traction control and the check engine light came on....the car stalled a few times, but once it finally warmed up it was fine.....I am thinking it has to do with the new computer that was put in(defective?)...anyway the mechanic is starting to feel sorry for me, so he is paying my rental car(a sweet Pontiac Pursuit /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif). The car was fine after I got it back, drove it to work once, and a little bit over the weekend with not even a hint of trouble.
