The tach on my Spitfire is going crazy. No change in engine speed, say 3000 rpm, but the tach needle will spike to over 6000! I thought it might be a kink in the cable but not so. Maybe a lack of lubrication? What is the speedometer and tach cable lubricant? Motor oil is not the answer... it seems to get gummy. T.T.

You'll need to get the oil out. I usually used powdered grapite. If it still jumpy, any speedometer shop will clean and replace the spring in the head. Doesn't cost much, just takes a little time of getting the speedo out and running to the shop, around here they'll do it while your waiting, really depends how busy they are.
