GT6 C.D.S.E.V carburetor question

Hi there,

I have 69 GT6 + with C.D.S.E.V. carbs (I think) becuase they have the non-adjustable Float chamber pug on the bottom of the float chamber, not the adjusting orifice that is on the earlier ones...please correct me if i am wrong.

My problem is that I seem to be running lean, the car that is ,not me as I am not lean at all these days, and I can't seem to find a way to get the mixture richer.

Anyway, I believe that these carbs "should" have adjustable metering needles, that the appropriate tool fits in (from the top of the dash pot) that allows you to adjust the mixture by turning clockwise or counter clockwise.

My problem is that they don't have that.....

Has someone along the way, put in the wrong needles? Is that possible? Am I way out of line?

Any comments, or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks so much!

The air valves in which the mixture needles reside is different for carbs with adjustable needles.
The air valves for adjustable needles have the 2 notches for the adjustment tool
On the left is the adjustment tool; on the right, the air valve for adjustable needles.

In this picture you'll see the adjuster in position in the air valve.

If you have the air valve with the 2 notches for the tool, you have the air valve for adjustable needles.
Here are the components of the adjustable needle.

The needle adjuster has a hex slot for the allen wrench component of the mixture adjustment tool... the adjustment range is less than 3 revolutions from fully rich (clockwise) to lean (counterclockwise).
Once you reach 2 1/2 CCW from fully CW, it's dangerously close to the separation of the adjuster to the needle carrier.

Do you have notches in the carbs' air valves ?

Poolboy, thanks for the response.
My air valves don't have the slots in them.....but they also don't have the adjustable float chamber plug on the bottom.
I guess it's possible that these were modified somehow, or is there a version of carb that doesn't have adjustable float chamber plugs and needle adjustment???
If so where might I adjust the mixture???

Thanks again

Thanks TR3driver,

Man, after reading the conversion article........I think I'll look for some pistons that are adjustable.......got any for sale????......LOL

Thanks

I've managed to get my hands on a few air valves for adjustable needles from time to time for people wanting the conversion while I have their carbs for rebuilding, so it's possible you might luck up too..

Not too long ago I tried to convince Joe Curto to turn loose of a couple. I can't blame him for not, but in the conversation he mentioned he might make up a batch from the non-adjustable versions.
You might give him a call.

He might have the adjustable jet conversion like Goodparts.
