I know that it is unlikely, but if anyone out there ever comes across, spies up on, hears about, knows of someone who might know of, inherits, steals, receives as stolen or in any way can help me find another distributor machine I would certainly like to know about it. I had an old Snap-On machine for about two hundred years and in complete lapse of reason I let it get away from me. In case you haunt old garages and don't know what I'm talking about a distributor machine is one of those thingies that sits on a work bench or on its own cabinet, usually over in a corner unused and covered in dust that a mechanic can chuck ignition distributors in and test them for all kinds of problems. Most of them were made by Snap-On, SUN and Allen. They are not useful for today's cars that either have an electronic distributor or no distributor at all so if your brotherinlaw has one and works on late model iron tell him I want his. You can always find my email address here. Thanks, Jack

I'll look for one for you, Jack, if you'll look for one of those Champion spark plug cleaners for me...you know, the type that used compressed air....

You might have a little more luck posting this in the "Tools" forum too.

You could also try the "Scions of Lucas" specialist Shop-Talk mailing list:

https://www.team.net/sol/sollists.html

You'll have to join to get to post your request, and then to hear what others say....

They also do one for MGs.

Thanks Tony and James! Done! I love this place! Jack

Though this will seem obvious, don't forget to watch eBay. I've seen two distributor machines on eBay during the past two years. I believe both sold for a fairly low price.

Note that you can use e-bay in two ways:

You can search for the item and then store the search and ask to be notified whenever items are listed. This lets you keep an eye out for items that don't appear very often without spending too much effort looking all the time. I've used this when looking for odd, little parts I needed but didn't want to waste lots of time watching for.

There's also a "Want it" facility where you can post items you want to buy. I've never used it but it might be worth a try.

Tony, Didn't J/C Whitney used-to-sell the spark plug cleaner? I don't remember if it was air powered or not, but I remember them selling one (and they also used-to-not be able to tell the MFG names because of their discounts too).

If you knew what you were looking at in their ads, you could get a pretty good deal. Now it's more like HF than anything, but still into a few car parts.

They even used to have a MG section. God bless the golden days - LOL /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

JC Whitney used to sell an electric spark plug cleaner that came with alligator clips to connect to your car's battery. It was a nasty, noisy little thing. I owned one when I was in high school. Eastwood sells a pneumatic spark plug cleaner (Item No. 46066) and it's on sale now for $27. See www.eastwoodco.com

Kenny...they did but I'm looking for old stuff as I decorate the Garage-mahal...just got my old Texaco light working & am disassembling my 1958 Smith gas pump
