I cant find it. while driving I hear a buzzing that sounds like its around the windshield and behind the dashboard. Its more consistant with engine vibration than road vibration.

I have been under the car and all over the inside and I cant find where its coming from. Am I the only one w/this wikid buzz. Emptying the glovebox did help with the GM-esque rattling but the buzz seems seperate from the potpouri of other clunks and rattles. has got to be coming from somewhere..... any ideas?
Thanks!

Tony

I had a dry speedometer cable once that had some strange noises. Doesn't follow your engine vibration note but just a thought.

I was gonna say speedo. Disconnect & drive it. If it disappears than you've found it.

Disconnect at transmission.

The time I heard a buzz-hum-rattle-buzz was about 5 minutes before the fuel pump went south. I'm just glad it's forward of that.

had many a VW beetle that buzzed like the dickens in the winter. a little wd-40 did the trick.

if I had to close my eyes and touch the sound, I would be reaching right to the base of the windshield or directly behind the dash. Disconected the speedo for kicks, its not making any noises. Its definatly a vibration created when the engine vibrates low RPM under load.

I put my steth up to the fuel pump and nothing there. Based on that bit of whisdom though I threw a spare electric one in the trunk w/some hose and wire right next to that GM alternator thats waiting to save me from a lengthy walk.

Is it a tough job to remove the dash to allow access back in there?

How is the hood alignment with the body? Could the hood be vibrabing against the body? Is the hood reinforcement secure to the hood sheet metal? This was loose on my TR3 and caused the same noise. Phil

Good point, it sits up on the passanger side sort of like someone tried to shut it w/o releasing the latch. I have done nothing more than a quick passing effort to bend it back into position (unsuccessfuly). It doesnt sit well but is solid and doesnt appear to rattle or vibrate.
I know the air breather assembly rattles a bit. I have the stock stronberg. Was going to install one of these HiF4 carbs on it but decided against it as the stronberg does its job just fine and the HIF4 has a 1.75" throat and would require some reworking. I guess I will try to find a high flow aftermarket breather to fit the stock carb, or make one.

Thanks

Tony

Also check the wiper bezels and make sure they are snug. That whole assy. runs behind and across the top of the dash!
