Bump stops

Boy, this rear suspension is a job. My wife tells me I love this car more than her, hmmmmm. . .I'd better not go there. Really, any wife that puts up with us backyard mechanics must be OK!!

Does anyone know how to remove and install new bumb stops? I've looked and and do not see any fasteners. Do they just pull off and push back onto a hanger or what? Any thoughts?

Thanks to all that have helped in this rebuild!

Hello SteveT,
are you refering to rear axle bump stops, i.e., the ones on top of the back axle? If so they are clamped by the two U bolts that secure the axle to the spring. You can usually change them by slackening the U bolt nuts and tapping the U bolts up, and wiggle the bump stop out. Worst case is you will have to completely remove the nuts but I would try to keep the nuts on the U bolts first. It makes it much easier.
good luck,
Alec

Hi Alec,
No, I'm referring to the rubber bump stops (Wrong name?) on the frame above the steel bump plate connected to the axle. I've removed all the spring assembly on the axle itself and will put back together today. I bought some Energy rubber stops to replace the 33 year old ones. Hope this helps explain it better. Thanks

As far as I can see the stops are not hed in with any screw, bolt, or clamp. I have never replaced any... my son has. I will question him when he wakes...probably around 2pm...he is 23 an it is Saturday morning here.
As to the "wife thing"... she needs to be trained properly. On her next birthday give her an assortment of Zaino products and some elegant pure cotton towels all wrapped in very nice foil wrapping paper (preferably similar to Tiffanys paper). Or, a personalized set of Metric tools and an assortment of shop cloths. My "ex" wife loved them. Get her involved; and let her ride (never drive) in it a couple of times per year.
Cheers, Steven

Not sure if they're similar to a Midget (probably are).

On a Midget the bump stops just snap in and out of a hole on a mounting bracket.....use a little soapy water the job easier. No mechanical fastner or clamp, etc. is used.

Doesn't hurt to "treat" the bump stops with Armor-All (or similar) once in a while, to keep them "live".

Hey, thanks for all the help on the bump stops. I too could not find any way of unbolting or screwing them on or off, so I'll be very carefull in trying to pull them off.

I must admit, my wife is very supportive of my hobbie. She has gone through a '68 Sprite, a really hot '86 MK1 MR2, and even though she doesn't understand my choice of color, yellow, she does like to ride in my Integra Type R, even if it is a bit too loud for her. So, all in all a pretty good person to have a round and, she does get some pretty nice gifts on occasion. In fact, right now she is at a painting class at Sherwin-Williams and wants to paint the bedroom, now how do you beat that!!

Sounds like you have a "keeper"... don't let her go. But, could she paint the bedroom BRG ? With a Union Jack on the ceiling. The headboard could be octagon shaped... hmmm
Where is my wife and why isn't she at a paint workshop...
Cheers, Steven
