Bulb holder issue

I have been struggling with the removal/replacement of the halogen taillight bulbs on my car. I simply cannot get q good enough grip on the bulb to push/turn and remove it from the bayonet socket. Unlike later cars the glass lens on the 100 is almost flat, the bulb is straight with no shoulder and does not project very far beyond the surface of the receptacle.

I'm sure there is a trick here--can anyone share it with me?
 
Well, Michael, you might try a piece of shrink-tubing and a short piece of dowel, shrink this over the bulb and then see if you can press the bulb down and twist it.

Just thinking outside the box, OK?

Dave Porter of Albuquerque NM was the first to come up with using a piece of rubber hose, light and stretchy enough to ride up on and capture the shoulder of the bulb, allowing one to push and turn, then extract the bulb.
 
I assume you are replacing the lamp because it is kaput. I take a quick and dirty approach and just grab the bulb with some duck bills ( or anything that will let me put some grip on the bulb) and push and twist until I break the lamp if it does not come free. It helps if you know which way to twist but not much because a broken lamp is usually my result. I then move on to needle nose pliers and grab the bulb socket and always seem to get enough purchase on it to push and twist and voila! ( or as many say these days viola!, like the big violin ).
