Built at deck at my son's house in New Orleans

My son and I just finished building a double deck in the backyard of his home in the Irish Channel, New Orleans. He needed a better back door instead of the small opening from his lower storage room. The railings will be installed Wednesday by a pro, a little out of my league. All built out of kiln-dried grade 1 treated pine and heavy-duty Simpson hangers plus hot-dipped galvanized bolts and steel plates. It ain't going nowhere.....

Good job! One of the first things we did after buying our house was to put a deck on top of the old, cracked concrete patio in the back of the house.

Wow, Bill!! All I'm tryin' t' do is make an indoor shower possible.

I can't figger the railing is beyond yer ken! Ya did a BRILLIANT job with the stairs/runners!
Beautiful!

Shoot Doc, if ya got a framing square, ya can make stairs

Spiral ones?

Yeah, cut my teeth with a cabinet maker. I hate wood, tho. Gimme STEEL and GFRP.

...and concrete. My dago ancestors invented epoxy. :jester:

So far, so good.

But I suspect my Italian progenitors are rotatin' at 3500 RPM with th' methods I've resorted to:

Glass fiber reinforcement, concrete "backer board", tile in "sheets" instead of hand laid...

"Kids."

Lazy bastages!

They'd have done it in terrazo.

still gotta get your hands dirty though, nothin changes that.
