Buick V8 pricing question

You've all be so helpful in the past with my questions and I'm here to ask opinions on the purchase of a 63 Buick V8 for my B project.

I have the opportunity to buy a V8 at a price of $500. Has everything on it except the manifolds and transmission. It's been recommended that the engine be overhauled since it's out of the car. My questions are:

Do you think that $500 is a fair price for the aluminum V8?

Are parts readily available and reasonably priced to rebuild the engine?

What transmission options might I have to mate to the engine?

Would it be better to rebuild and pump up my 4 banger?

What's your opinions on the engine swap?

Thanks for your continued support and help.

If the engine is in decent shape $500.00 doen't seem unreasonable. It's at the low end of what TSI quotes used engines at. Ted at TSI also has the tranny you'll probably want, a TR8 unit, as well as assorted parts and pieces for a MG V8 conversion. Vicky Brit and The Roadster Factory also supply as does Rimmer Brothers from the UK. Also, remember this was originally a GM OldsmoBuick and then a Rover (Land Rover) power unit so there will be parts at any number of other automotive outlets.

A rebuild is going to run you some coin, just be prepared.
