Bugeye Values?? To buy or not to buy?

I just stumbled upon a Bugeye...Looks decent, owner says it runs but needs some mechanical work. He's askin 5500, how reasonable is this? It doesn't sound like a bad price to me, but I haven't been anywhere near the sprite market in decades.

Looks worth the value just on looks alone from here.

Yeah...hopefully I'll get out this weekend and take a look-see...It's only about an hour from me. Good day for me in terms of LBC finds, aside from the Bugeye I got a lead on a solid looking early GT6 and a TR6....Soon as everyone gets a taste of winter all the toys hit the classifieds.

If this is $5500 CDN, that's a decent price. Even in USA dollars, that wouldn't be bad.
Be sure to look at the sills under the doors and front fenders to be sure that they are not "soft" with rust.
Also, inspect the mounting points for the rear, quarter-elliptic springs (basically, in the area just behind the seats).

Looks sweet is it an hour east or an hour west ? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif(I'm in Waterloo) BTW, where did you find the ad? And yes I do covet it and no I'm not going to call /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif

could be north JP but definitely not south lol

Even with a bit of rust it looks like it is all there. That makes a restoration so easy and much much cheeper.

Looks like a fair deal, maintained and complete, but I would haggle. Wonder what the engine compartment looks like. The seats kill me, must have been owned by a female at some point. hehehe

I love the 70's seats. Very custom van, or is that Corinthian leather?

That price seems well in the ballpark if the car is as sound as it looks.

Ditto on the rust issues. Look and see if it has disc brakes, a sway bar, which motor and tranny. The first digits on the mtr id tells which mtr it is. Just negotiating points. If it is solid, definitally a car to think about.

Go for it. you know you want it,you know you want it,you know you want it,you know you want it.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to look at it this weekend, I'am suppose to look at two other cars as well(rumphs). The 5500 is in Candian money, but I'd definatly haggle a bit...I've never actually paid asking price for a car in my life..As you know cars always look better in pictures, so I am not gunna jump in just yet, I am definatly not lookinf for another project...but another driver wouldn't hurt. Thanks for all the tips, I'll let you know what happens.

P.S It's in Ajax Ontario...Found the ad on kijiji.com

Heck, just call and offer 5K, easly worth that.

Is that bead line between the body and fenders suppose to be painted over?

Yep, it is steel should be on both Bonnet and rear fenders.

Hmmmm. Not that much of a drive for me..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
And I still have some vacation left, so I could drive up tomorrow.................................

Little update: Just sent a second email...still waiting to hear from him....Pretty much just eliminated on of the rumphs from my list, so that frees up the time to give this one some serious consideration......BTW: I forgot to mention earlier his ad says it has a hardtop-not sure if it's a factory top or not....Has the convert top frame but no canvas.
