The underside of the MC lid is marked BS 1004. Intresting part number.

Also I put one on a polisher and it shined up like chrome. I always thought they were pot metal but now think they might be pewter. Oh yea, it is tough stuff as well.

The one on Miss Agatha is pited and in my stuff I found another that was in better shape so am cleaning it up as a replacement.
 
BS 1004 isn't a part number, it's a Brtish Standards Institute number. In this case it's a "Specification for zinc alloys for die casting and zinc alloy die castings"

So now you know!
 
Oh cool. I did not google it, will now. Boy does it polish well.

Hmmm.....if I tried to polish mine it would melt! I guess plastic wasn't OEM. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
 
You have a plastic M/C cover?? I've never heard of that on a BE!!!
