Bugeye shifter on later ribcase

Today's question is about transmissions. Tunebug will be getting a fairly late ribcase (74ish). This transmission uses the later style shifter with the large dampener on it. I want to use an early style shifter, like the one on my original smoothcase.

Can I swap over the entire shift mechanism (remote change) from the smooth case to the rib case? Is there a different bit that would work?

If I can swap one, does anyone have one they'd be willing to part with? I'd like to keep my smoothcase intact if I can, though it's not super important to do so.

I don't know if you can swap the whole shift remote from smooth to rib.
And the smooth shifter will NOT work as a direct swap BUT....
With 3 washers under the plate that holds the shifter in, 1 on each bolt but under the plate, the smooth shifter will work in a ribcase. If you look real close at the lengths of each shifter from bottom ball to big ball, you will see the smooth is longer. Not much and that difference can be taken up with a washer under each bolt.
I have lots of those funky shifters with the break away thing on them but none from an early ribcase. So I make the old ones work.

Got and replied, Jeff. Thanks.

Thanks for the info as well, Frank. All I've got right now is the original smoothcase in the car so it's good to know I can make that work if necessary. Hopefully I'll find the early bits, but I like options.
