Frogeye early single cylinder rear brakes:
I'm now putting the rear back together, but I've a query on the placement of the shoe springs, I've consulting the manual & the photo's I took upon disassembly, but I can't see which holes the springs go in.
Does anyone have photo's of this.
TA. my frog
Thanks Chris, & the spring on the cylinder side? I think there's only one place for it to go. It was the above that I wasn't sure about as mine was loose on these holes.
I did a search this morning & came up with nowt, not on wikki either.
John-Peter's pic doesn't exactly match the original equipment on the Bugeye, mostly the holes in the shoe are different.
I always install the spring shown in the pic first. Take out the adjuster cam and carrier if it is installed.
The other spring (which is the one with two spring sections joined by a straight part), goes BEHIND the shoes. It's fiddly to get it installed but not difficult. To get it in place you can try dropping the end of the shoe off the piston, which will make the gap between the holes easier to stretch to. Then I pull against the spring to lift the top shoe up while I insert the adjuster cam and carrier. I have fairly good arm strength, but if you prefer, enlist your SO to use a hefty screwdriver to lever up the top shoe, while you install it. Mind your fingers!!! Hopefully she can keep her hands mostly clean...
