Bugeye Engine tray?

I noticed what looks like an pan under the engine of a Bugeye on Ebay. Was this standard or is this added on?

I don't have anything like that on my Bugeye... nor have I ever seen anything like it on any of the other area Bugeyes.

Why is there a big hole in the tranny tunnel? Is that a special sump? I think that is a datsun tranny as well.

The writeup said "oversized oil pan" it also said "5 speed conversion". Hole was probably to fit the driveshaft on the end of the tranny. Real 'workmanship'! Makes one wonder what other surprises are hidden there.

I don't believe this car was ever close to concours as the ad claims. Wrong seats, tach, speedometer, unusual radiator just for starters.

Probably a competition pan from all the work that was done by Tom (Speedwell Eng.) on the engine. He also sells them. Tranny is a Datsun 5 spd.

Concours aaahhhhhmmmmmmmmm...

That radiator also appears to be a Speedwell product. If it is like the one I bought from Speedwell a couple of years ago (and it sure looks like it), it is an aluminum, direct replacement unit, and a bit north of $500! Helped my cooling problem on the race car though I've learned of much cheaper solutions since then. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

There is no doubt that some money was spent on the LBC, but it is obviously not a concours vehicle.

I believe that the question is whether or not it was done tastefully and purposely?

Can't disagree with the question! I know I'd be replacing the steering wheel ASAP -- looks too "modern" for the application. I'd probably also lose the Speedwell radiator and replace the carb with twin HS2's.

But you ought'a get a load of the owner's reserve price and the attitude the seller (evidently NOT the same person) spews in the Q&A part of the auction. Here's the URL:

Absolutely crazy if you ask me! How to people like that stay in business?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

Oh boy, can't wait to get mine done. 20K, guess I best start looking for another to do right now.

I guess that I shouldn't have much competition in that price range.

The sellers questions and answers just convinced me that

I HAVE TO HAVE THIS CAR!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif
