Bugeye does it again:]

Some of you may remember about four years ago I posted that our Bugeye went to the car show at the National Apple Harvest Show above Gettysburg, and won best of show out of 250 American muscle cars from the 50's and 60's. It is awarded by popular vote, its not a judged event. So yesterday a coiuple of us took our cars up to the show, entered and displayed, and guess what! Best of Show again!!! My wife spent the whole day talking to folks about what relative had what LBC when, and putting kids into the Bugeye for photo opportunities. Everyone just loves the old Bugeyes, and it was a constant conversation from when we got there til the close. Guess we'll go back again next year:smile:

Congrats!!!!

Sounds like fun! I can't believe I never got to see it. Did you drive straight up I15 or take back roads?

Hi Keith, you'll get to see it at some point, I'm sure. To us she's a slightly better then average Bugeye, but to folks that aren't used to seeing them, she's a blast from the past! The kids love her. We were on 15 for about ten minutes, from Thurmont to Emmittsburg. Other than that it was all back roads. Pam and I are masters of turning a 45 minute trip into an hour or so
hope all is well with you,
Larry and Pam

Great pics! However, they have now caused considerable discussion at my house about the color for the bugeye I'm currently restoring. The car will be my wife's, so she has final say in the color, and her original choice was a yellow very similar to your car. Lately, though, she's been leaning more to the light blue that was original on many bugeyes, and looks to be the original color of my car.

Seeing your car has made her start to second-guess again! I tend to favor the blue (anyone know the name for that blue?), but have to admit that the yellow is very classy.

Speedwell Blue on the earlier cars (up to January 1959), and later Iris Blue.

Hi Keith - we were undecided about our color too, we couldn't decide between our yellow and leaf green. I actually painted exactly 1/2 of the front of the car each color, and we looked at it for almost a month before we decided. The engine was out at the time, so it was just sitting in the garage. As you can see, the yellow won out. What I think really sets it off is we bought a red top from AH Spares in England. None of the usual suspects here offered red. So it looks really good with the top on it.

I don't know why the second photo stretched out like that, but you can see the color combination

Found the old photo posted in the summer of 2011. The thread is pretty interesting, I had asked for opinions on which color to paint the car.

Congrats, Larry! I was wondering if it was the Bugeye or the "Big" Healey that won. "Baby Blue" is thrilled for its former stablemate!

Thanks, David!

Larry,
The red top is definitely an eye-catcher! I don't think I've ever seen a red top before, and I have to admit it looks great on that yellow. The picture of the car half green and half yellow is great, but I'm not going to show it to my wife because I don't want her to get any ideas. I do like the yellow more than the green; I've seen a few bugeyes painted dark green (probably British Racing Green), and I've never liked them.

I will be happy with ours whether it's blue or yellow; both colors look good on the car in my opinion.

Thanks Hugh. That's actually what I was confused about. Both colors were listed in the production stats, and I wasn't sure which was the light blue. It sounds like both are a light blue.

It sounds like both are a light blue.

Yes, both are light blue. I've never seen both side by side, so I don't know what the difference is. (I'm waiting on the Heritage Certificate for my car to confirm my guess that my car was originally Speedwell Blue.) Note that blue cars also originally had blue interiors.

Hmm... I'm not sure I've ever seen a blue interior for sale. I'd love to see the two colors side by side...
