Bugeye Colors

I'm still waiting on my "Original Sprite" book. Until I get it does anyone have an image of a BE in either Leaf Green or White Hall Nevada Beige? The beige with red interior might be very striking!

John, my buddy has an original, 39,000 mile, Bugeye in Leaf Green. (Army Racing Green /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif ) I'll see if I can get him over here for a photo op. The paint is a bit faded, but not bad for 48 year old color.
That and the beige were my two least favorites!
Jeff

I'll have to look around, but IMO leaf green had too much yellow in it and the Beige was ... well... Beige. I will probably paint mine a non-stock color. You could go with old English White and red interior (which I think looks nice), but may be overdone. Red on Red is a good choice too.

Do you know the original colors of the car?

Trevor,

I'm not 100% sure of the original color, back in the boot and on the doors I've seen blue, but it's a dark blue not Iris, Under the dash I saw white, so I'm guessing it was OEW. I still haven't gotten it home hopefully Monday.

I won't keep it red, that is given. I already have a red B. Also, when you go to shows there is a sea of red and BRG cars, with white close behind. I would like to pick a period color, and if it's a bit unusual even better. I really dig the red interiors with white piping. That really POPS and screams "British Sports Car". I've seen one or two Sandy Beige MGB GT's with red interiors and while it might sound kinda boring, it's a very beautiful combo.

John, scrawled in crayon or grease pencil on the back of the dash, there should be writing noting the original options and color of the car.

I believe the original colors were:

1. Old English White
2. Red (with a touch of purple in it)
3. Iris Blue
4. BRG

From what you say with the red interior it is mostly OEW.

Look at Agatha if you would like to see what that combination looks like.

Unfortunately, it looks like the DPO tried to do a "wood dash" mod in my car and it's a crappy piece of luan or plywood! uggg. I wish I knew how post a photo, so you could see what I mean.

Here is the site I've been using for original color combos.

I've got the same reference, John. I also have a '65 Sprite that is now painted a hideous John Deere Green. By all indications, including the floor, inside of the boot, and under the bonnet, it was originally black. The references all show that black was only available on Midgets for that year. My black is definitely original. Go figure.

But if you really want to know, before I get serious about paint and body work, I'll get it running as is to access the condition of the mechsnicals. Maybe while I do that I'll give it a rattle can primer paint job, throw a mexican blanket over the seats and have a Bugeye RAT ROD!!! LOLOL /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Yup, satin black with some hand drawn flames! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I can't decide what color to do mine. I'm really thinking about painting it the exact same color as my Midget! Then if I trade paint as I park them in the garage... no biggie. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

You probably already know this site but just in case

Old English White is really a lovely cream.
