Bugeye book with sizes of all bolts

Hi Forum,

Does anyone happen to know a Bugeye resource (book, internet) where all of the bolt and nut sizes are listed by where they go on the car?

I am trying to convert as much of the hardware in the car during this rebuild to stainless steel, and this would help me greatly.

Now that's kind of a cool idea, I vote for that. But think I only wish to replace thoes that show in the engine room and elsewhere, non stress locations.
 
Been thinking about this. Take samples of what you need and go to the bigest hardware store you can find. They will have boxes and boxes of nuts, bolts, screws in many different sizes and types. See if you can find equilivents in stainless. You know the boxes I mean, couple inches high, and maybe a foot wide with lots of small areas inside.
 
Hey jlaird, that's exactly what I've been doing. Just thought there might be a resource that says, "lever shocks have (4) 3" 5/16 bolts with fine thread" type of thing, although judging by the dearth of responses, I don't think there is one.

Also, stupid question, I guess, but why do you say no stainless steel in non-stress locations? I am assuming--but not sure--if that is because the material that makes the bolt stainless (which I believe is nickel), also reduces the hardness of the bolt, making it unsuitable for "stressful" locations. Is this true? What would you consider stress locations? Thanks!
 
Not being in the area of materials science, I can't tell you why. However, it is an unfortunate fact that stainless bolts are roughly equivalent to grade 2/ungraded hardware, and therefore unsuitable for applications where grade 5 hardware was originally specified (basically anywhere stressed). Grade 5 is, of course, a moderate strength rating, but better than grade 2, and obviously superior to ungraded hardware.

Or anyplace else where it is not purely cosmetic.
