Hi Everyone,
I need some help on a battery and battery tray. 1) Does anyone know where I can get a good used original battery tray, or who carries a reproduction close to the original? There was a tray made from some composite type of material that was beyond saving when I bought the car. 2) What are the measurements on the original battery? 3)I have decided to go with a negative ground. This should not effect where the negative and positive poles are, correct? 4)Are the poles close to the fire wall or away from the fire wall? Any help is always appreciated.

I don't know what the original setup was (and I'd believe anything!), but to minimize the possibility of the ungrounded battery terminal contacting the firewall, I think it's best to keep the terminals away from the firewall.

The ground contact is on the left side of the car and the starter on the right, so that's how the battery terminals should be arranged--with the grounded one on the left (driver) side.

In my experience the battery trays that are offered for sale by the retail sources do the job, but really do not look anything like the original one shown above on the ebay site.
Take your pic.

Hey and my solution was a marine battery tray. Not not original but strong and covers the first repair I ever made on Bugsy to lay a piece of steel over the top of the rusty battery tray, pop rivet in place to some sound metal and out of site, out of mind.

I found a plastic container in the house, hmmmm, that worked just fine after I cut all but an inch or so off of the walls of it.

Wife never missed it. hehe.

My preference on the battery posts forward or aft is to get a battery that has the posts in the middle, that way they don't short out on the firewall, the heater box nor on the battery hold-down bar.

A good point, Bill. I download pictures off of Ebay frequently for reference purposes, and most of the posts are near the hold down bar. Having the posts in the middle seems a lot safer.
