well the engine seems to be bucking
I put oil in the Gearbox and that seemed to improve it.
but it is stalling?
the fuel filter is full, but last month i did move the fuel pump. it seams to buck on acceleration after cheering gears.
I just cleaned the plugs did I move the disturbuter? could it be the timing?

Just when I thought I was becoming the expert Im puzzeled

mine started bucking as a vacuum leak - try tightening the carb and manifold - or at least check is things are loose. for me they loosened as part of a longer trip
 
Hello Steve - I'd caution against making too many changes at any one point. That is, when trouble shooting go from one component and make sure it is right then go to the next.

Generally speaking you want to make sure the ignition system is correct and then move on to fuel then to mechanical issues such as gearbox etc

How does she run when she isn't moving? Does she rev cleanly from idle to redline?
 
I agree with tdskip, but the first thing I would check is, as John-Peter said, for vacuum leaks! Check the carb-to-manifold and manifold-to-head nuts for tightness along with checking for vacuum leaks at the throttle shafts etc.
 
Make sure your points have not closed up and also it could be that condenser. Many a carb has been worked on because of the condenser. You might want to get a timing light and hook it up to the coil wire and see if the timing like stops flickering intermittently as when the bucking happens, if so then its something in the ignition.
 
well I sprayed "start gas" around the manifold and no change in idle.
I cleaned the plugs again very sooty, when it cools Ill pop the distribute and look in at the points. yesterday I cleaned the contacts. before I made the attempt to drive to Germany I cleaned the plugs maybe its that I need new wires.

Shaggy is idling ok not stalling but missing once and while
Tried the little finger adjuster on the distributor. with no change.
 
The finger adjuster on the distributor only changes the timing by very small amounts. This won't have any real effect on your problem.
What you need to check is the dwell (should be around 50 I think) or the point gap (should be around .015). These two readings measure the same thing (point gap),the outside adjuster doesn't do anything for the point gap.
You also need to verify that the point faces are clean (probably before you check the gap/dwell).
You also need to buy a new condenser for the point system and install it,THEN start looking at the carbs.

hmmm could it be that when i topped up the oil the day before some splashed on the spark plug wire and over night ran down soaking its contact to the distrubuater..
cleaning now

ok you might be right about the vacuum leak it started and ran fine. for the first 200 yards then slowly acted up as the engine warmed. so it has to be a metal expansion thing. not gas or spark
