Then it's just probably a mysterious rattle that I will have to track down. Think I'll stop worrying so much and just enjoy driving the carKarl
You do seem to have some unfortunate luck.
I not sure a broken tensioner noise would go away with a warm engine
Lifters seemed OK. If the noise goes away after warm up then it's probably just the dzus screws on the bonnet that are quite loose and vibrating. Gotta fix that.I would not think the tensioner quiets down when warmed up, probably a lifter. Did you get the lifter assembly rebuilt?
Hey Mad Dog I finally tracked down that loud metal to metal clanking noise. Turns out that one of those stay rods that hold the bottom of the front apron had come loose and was causing the banging!!!!!! Sure had me fooled. Glad it wasn't engine related. Time to enjoy the Fall driving season here.A rattle, when cold, that goes away warm equals piston slap. A tensioner makes a tinkling ,faint-ish
noise at idle.Piston slap is a precursor to broken ring syndrome. Followed by massive oil consumption.
Over all , piston slap wont leave you stranded, and the fix is a liner/piston set. Tensioner noise will certainly
find you parked soon, when it jumps time.

Just curious. Are you currently working on a British car? Do you have one as a daily driver? KarlThis is the reason that nylock nuts were invented. "if it can come loose ,it will".
I would suggest a secession of recreational fastener tightening may be in your future....

If you let it in it will tell its friendsIt is a race between the Tr3b and the 61 Morgan it sits beside. Both are in the final stages.
Daily driver is the 64 Mini Cooper or the 59Tr3a. Other than that I cut the lawn(when it gets deep).
Trying to sell on the 61 project car 3a....dont know why there is a Tr6 by the back door(afraid to lrt it in)
