I now have confirmation that my little tach drive gear box is kaput. Took it apart last night, and the larger of the 2 gears is missing a tooth. That officially explains that.

I think that for now I'm going to replace the box and keep using the mechanical tach while I figure out an electronic replacement. Any thoughts on preventative maintenance for these little buggers to keep them alive longer?

Also, at the end of last season I put in a new ignition/light switch. This past weekend, I was testing the lights and noticed that the detents that should stop the light switch part at the various stops now no longer exist. I'm going to pull it apart to see if I can fix it, but I'm guessing it's a case of a cheaply made reproduction part. Bummer.

Tac drive gear box takes a couple of drops of oil from time to time. Is a small screw to remove to get it in.
