Broke my harmonic balancer

I dropped a socket drive this weekend and knocked a chip out of my harmonic balancer on my tr6.

Does anyone have a lead on where I can find a used one?

Used are getting very hard to come by, that aren't junk. Did you try Ebay?

I was worried about that. I tried ebay and the aftermarket ones don't have the timing marks. Looks like it was an expensive accident.

It didn't even hit it that hard, just right to knock a chip out of it.

depending on the size of the chip, you might want to just look into trying to get it re-balanced. machine shop should be able to figure out if it's salvagable or scrap.

Jack,

Do you have a picture that you can send to Damper Dudes?

Maybe off topic, but -

If someone has axcess to a rotary 4th axis CNC mill I would be willing to write a program to engrave these unmarked dampers. I could produce the program in a number of different control languages.

I would need an old damper to get the marks to match the originals.

wow. never new the forum to be quite so interactive and quick. i'm hoping for good news for you.

This forum is <span style="font-style: italic">different</span>. Responses sometimes come in <span style="font-style: italic">minutes</span>.

We've even been known to answer questions before they're asked. :smirk:

No Doc, I will not do that.

I guess that you already knew the question, right Carnac?

meh.

You're a sly one, Rego. One day we'll sit an' swap lies.

I'd like that very much.

As General Patton said to his Russian counterpart at the victory celebration,

"We'll share a toast, from one old Ba....., to another".

Indeed... indeed.

Mine was chipped in transit to Damper Dudes. They brazed in a new piece before they overhauled it for me. Looks good as new.

It's amazing what damage a smooth round socket can do.
