Brock Yates-Alzheimer's

I was just reading Brock Yate's column in Vintage Motorsport magazine and was stunned to find out he has Alzheimer's. He is actually in the middle of a double-blind research study for Alzheimer's meds. His medical and writing future is unsure right now.

I been reading him since the 60s (back then, Car & Driver) and have talked to him several times at race tracks. I haven't always agreed with him but always found him interesting.

I know he's often been pegged as the "Cannonball Run guy", but honestly, he's done a lot of other stuff. For better or worse, he's had a huge influence on automotive writing in the last 40 years.....and speaking personally, I think much of it has been for the better.

Sad news.

Indeed.

He has stepped up to the plate to volunteer for this double-blind test. Shows his character well.

When the "real" Cannonball was being put together, it was an 'underground' effort, the last one was in '75 or '76, I was asked to be a co-driver in a car that came in fifth or so in the prior run... my "mom" at the time (First Wife) said no. Lifetime regret there.

I'm sorry to hear that.He was a guy that'd speak his mind.
I seem to rember an interview he did a few years back.He was into
different car things, rather than just one area.
I'll have to pull out those old '60's Car & Driver's that I
have & reread them.

Ah yes, Sunday Driver. Great read, good author, good man. I remember his comment about spending an incredible (at the time) $5000 on a racing engine.
