Good morning all i was wondering if anyone here has ever used this broadway title co. to replace a lost title and how it was to deal with them and then the DMV. I am ready to get on the road and still can't get it titled.

PM me for more information. I can attest to their services. Probably best to keep it off the board.

Is there some way to at least "generically" share that information? I would be interested as well!

Yep - "Vendor & Product Review" forum above.

Its a gray area, but nothing that isnt puplic knowledge.you basically sell them your car and buy it back,at a price you decide, although the car doesnt actually change hands, only ownership. You will pay nj tax on this price when when you transfer.Pick a realistic price, and pay the tax, lowball number is a red flag for them. You get registration, and a letter stating Al. is non title state and get notarized bill of sale . Fee is usually 100.
Call, they will explain in more detail.
NJ mv will not like the Alabama paper work, and may ask you to go to .Trenton, with info.
Dont go until you get a phone number for the office and call,to be sure they are not asking for anything else like pics or number tracing.

Ah screw it -

Broadway title is good. I purchased a Kaiser M151 Military Jeep a few years ago and used them. They no longer can do military vehicles in Illinois (or actually any vehicles in Illinois). I sold the Jeep back in december because it's really not my thing.

They are very good and knowledgeable about the process, I think one of the only legitimate (if you can even use that word) title companies out there.

They were using Alabama back them, but I'm not sure if they are anymore. Basically you legally sell them the vehicle on a bill-of-sale basis, then they sell it back to you with a registration, then you register the vehicle in your home state and it's as if everything was proper.

States are REALLY cracking down on this so be careful...

Yes, you used to be able to obtain AL title to a ham sandwich but other municipalities got wise to the scheme and AL titles are not always accepted. I think the tipping point was someone caught on to the late Mr Coddington building brand new hot rods from scratch and then titling them as 1931 cars from AL. The base problem is that most states now want to visually inspect the car before issuing a title (including AL). Don't hold me to it but the last I heard South Dakota and New Hampshire were the last states that would still issue title without a DMV inspection.

Most states have a lost title process that you can go through in order to obtain a replacement title. Why can't you go through that process? Here in CA things can get sticky on post 1975 cars where registration is due and the car is a non-runner. You can get into a chicken/egg situation where in order to get/replace title, it needs to be registered. In order to get registered, it needs a smog inspection. If the car can't be smogged for whatever reason, you can't get title. I know where there is a 77 450SL that can be had for almost nothing because the title is lost and it has a stuck motor.

And it's fun as always in New York, where titles were NOT issued for cars prior to the 1973 model year. Anything earlier than that -- even older cars from other states that DID have titles -- got a "Transferable (Certificate of) Registration" for paperwork. For 1972 and older cars without paperwork, it's tough to track down anything, since NY's DMV doesn't keep old records. But they sometimes (depends on the office, clerk, mood, prevailing wind and planetary alignment, I think) will just accept various notarized affidavits, preferably on suitable official DMV forms.

Well i tried to get a new title as replacement for my old messed up title took calif. dmv 4 weeks to send back my money order and tell me that the title could not be sent to me because my name isn't on the title the previous owners name is ; even though i sent a copy of the title with the P.O. signing the title over to me with the stamp BRITISH CARS ONLY INC. this means nothing to the dmv; so time to go another route ; i need a drink.

Al has changed the rules. Broadway can still do it but for much more $$$ and to qualify you have to jump through hoops.
