TR2/3/3A British Wiring alternator conversion kit question.

Has anyone done a conversion to alternator and can confirm that when the regulator is bypassed the thick "brown" wire and thick "brown/white" wire should be joined together? ( I know that the thinner brown/blue wire and thinner brown white wire are to be joined.)

Will have to check on mine. I removed the regulato.

It turns out that the brown and brown /white wires are for the removed ammeter and they should not be joined together which I mistakenly did. The connections melted the wires in that area(lucky there was no fire). Apparently you are just supposed to tape of the ends of those wires as they are no longer needed. The voltmeter gets wired in differently by using a white wire to the ignition key and a ground wire >

I believe I was wrong about this. According to an old post I read by TR3driver if you replace the ammeter with a voltmeter you do connect the ammeter wires together! I did join them years ago when I installed the alternator and voltmeter together. i believe these wire shorted out in my car because I could see where the brown wire had fused itself to the black windshield wiper ground wire and shorted them out. I'm going to post a new post on the forum to confirm this is so.
