Hey guys. My dad sent me this article out of Autoweek dated 8/23/04. I really enjoyed it and found it pretty informative. I guess there really is a reason why LBCs leak and sometimes spew oil. Hope y'all enjoy it as much as I did!

Huh. It's a wonder we still haven't made proper gaskets then. Guess we should go back to pre-WWII technology since that's when the leaking apparently started! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
 
Bah, William Jeanes obviously doesn't know a oil-based active rustproofing system when he sees one.

You see, the theory went that a continous stream of oil across the bottom of the car, splayed out by the wind going beneath the car, would continually rustproof the undercarriage, with none of the problems typical undercoats have with drying out, chipping, and coming off. Quite ingenious, in theory.

So the real question isn't "why do they leak oil". Instead, the real question should be "why didn't the active rustproofing system actually keep the rustworm at bay?"
