The timing cover that I have has a breather on it. I bought a polished valve cover that does not have an oil breather tube. Shouldn't these hook up? Thoughts?
 
NO! If you connect both breathers together you are essentially blocking the crankcase ventilation system. Major oil leaks, from places you never thought could leak.
If you have a PCV valve, run the hose from the front breather to it. If you don't have the valve, plumb it to a catch can.
"A" series engines like all the breathing ability they can get. I run extras on all of the race engines.

Sure, you can install one. You may have to change the intake manifold if yours isn't set up with the fitting for it, but those are easy to find. It'll probably be harder to find the valve.

Good deal. I have a few intakes laying around. What does it look like? Should it have the 1 1/4 diam ports also?

Its got a 1/2" hose fitting sticking out the top. Some of the manifolds just have a plug installed there. And, most of the diaphragm type valves are interchangeable.
Are you running a 1275?

I've used the PCV valve from Datsun 210's many times on Spridgets with great success. Just have a 1/2" hose sticking out of the manifold to the timing cover and stick the Datsun valve in-line. (PCV valves to small Toyota's work too)

Personally, I would run a hose from the timing cover to a catch canister and use the fitting on the intake manifold to hook up a vacuum guage (a truly helpful instrument!!) It may be "cleaner" to recycle crank-case gases into the intake but it doesn't make it run better!
