Breather Tube's .......

Hi All --

Almost at driving stage now. Have engine / tranny in and car will run. Confused about some tubes that I'm not sure if they are needed form transplant from 1098 to 1275.

A) Breather tube on top of value cover ? Attached to front carb or nothing at all ??

B) New item to the 1275 -- there is a breather tube of sorts on the front of the engine just next to (& requires a spacer) the rad fan. Does anything attach here ??

C) Do I just leave all "empty" ?? What would happen ?? Would anything come out (oil ??) ??

My friend seems to recall a picture on one of my manuals but I sure can't find it. It has the breather tube on top of the valve cover attaching to the breather next to the radiator fan (kind of looks like a small size beer can).

Car runs -- I just need to install trival items like the radiator and fan, thermo, attach the drive train. A few hours and I'll being doing laps around the neighborhood.

I recently removed all the emissions control equipment from my 1275 and was asking the same questions. Now where do I connect this stuff…

Here is what I ended up doing after taking in everyone’s comments.

1. I attached a small vent/breather filter (like the ones you would find at any auto parts store) to the breather tube on top of value cover.

2. As for the crankcase vent on the front of the engine. I ended up connecting it to the carbs. This provides a slight negative crank pressure and help hold the oil in. I also added a modern pcv to the connection. The pcv not only prevents blowback from the carbs, but also restricts the amount of vacuum to the crankcase, lessening the chance of sucking up and burning oil.

Now I’m not sure if this is the 100% correct thing to do. I just took a little from what everyone told me.
