Breaking - Bin Laden is DEAD!

Just heard on FOX NEWS (and also some other networks) that Osama Bin Laden has assumed room temperature! DNA testing has confirmed - body in possession of US military. I hope to God this is true! The President is going to speak shortly. God Bless our Military!

Just watching the news now.

I actually knew it before it hit the airwaves
We always knew you were connected...

Waiting to hear the President speak right now as well.

As good as this is to hear, we need to brace ourselves for some serious retaliation from Osama's minions. Bank on it.

What Basil said. The UK, already on "Severe" alert status, are stepping up security still further. Consensus among my policing contacts is that there will be a high profile target hit or an attempt made, in retaliation.

Things are likely to get worse before they start getting better.

Yes.

Still, great news and a <span style="text-decoration: underline">job well</span> done by our military.

One down.

Hope there is/was actionable intel gleaned as well.

Gotta love our Special Forces folks.

Great news, but little solace to the thousands he murdered. God rest their souls.

Like Basil says, retaliation is a specialty of the Taliban, we've got to expect a hit, and soon.

"Avoid foreign entanglements", said great Washington. He was right . . . :yesnod:

Navy Seals - special team (being referred to as "Team 6"), working under C2 of CIA. The groundwork for this day began several years ago with the intel that resulted in identity of one of OBL's most trusted couriers. Intel that was based on info obtained from certain "detainees" since 9/11. I'm sure glad that we were able to "somehow" obtain that info that ultimately led to this great day!:

"Based on statements given by U.S. detainees since the 9/11 attacks, they said, intelligence officials have long known that bin Laden trusted one al-Qaida courier in particular, and they believed he might be living with him in hiding.
Four years ago, the United States learned the man's identity, which officials did not disclose, and then about two years later, they identified areas of Pakistan where he operated. Last August, the man's residence was found, officials said."

As for actionable intel, obviously we won't be getting any from the horses mouth, but hopefully we have or will gain useful intel from computers or other sources at the compound in question.

Retaliation indeed. Lets hope THIS doesn't come true. Anyone who thinks this war with radical Islam is over has their head in the sand!

And Washington wasn't talking about not defending ourselves...nuff said about that.

Our flag is normally out (unless the weather is rotten), but I got up early to put it up today!

This quote from Mark Twain seems especially fitting:

<span style="font-style: italic">"I've never wished a man dead but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."</span>

Indeed.

I watched the news as it was breaking last night. Watched the crowds in DC and New York and was struck by a few thoughts. First: When they were showing the DC "celebration" it seemed as if the college bars had emptied out and the revellers were primarily drunken college students (didn't actually see that much of the New York footage). Second: The US seems to be the only country where people seem to disrespect the flag in the name of patriotism. Or maybe I kust notice it more when it involves the US flag. I don't think the disrespect is purposeful but more through ignorance. Which is almost worse.

Dead is better than captured. As much as we might like to see him face justice and execution this save on all the publicity and commentary and questions on trial specifics that would have gone on.

Too many people haven't a clue about flag etiquette, which is really too bad but such things are not taught much any more.

I think the father of Todd Beamer (the Flight 91 hero) said it best this morning on Fox News: "I'm glad he didn't get a chance to "lawyer up." Me too...OBL got exactly what he deserved and is now fish food!

Hard to tell if this dead was the goal, or just the most likely result. Much easier to kill him then to capture him alive. Dumping the remains at sea was VERY smart.

White House orders were to kill him, not capture him. Dead was the goal and the goal was met. OBL is now fish food.
