Brand new Distributor Question

Standard Performance is selling new Pertonix distributors with vac advance and electronic ignition module and cap for $200. They are exact replicas of Lucas 45D dists. They claim they will fit on MGB,Midget,TR3,TR4,Sprite,Spifire etc. How can this be if the advance curve was different for each specific model? The TR3A ran a 25D distributor for example.

It's called universal fit and they are not tailored for the curve that you need for your engine. I would have my old distributor rebuilt by Jeff at: https://www.advanceddistributors.com/

Many others here have done so and are very happy with the results.

The distributors above do not include a tach drive either, just in case you need one.

Ditto on Jeff for rebuilding your distributor or buying one direct from him. He does the whole distributor (weights, Springs and vac adv) for your cars specs.

Just like the Borg on Star Trek, resistance is futile!

Just contact Jeff.

When Shirley and I were waiting to board the ferry yesterday we happened to pull up next to about a dozen motorcycles.
They got all excited over our 6 and made several comments about how nice it sounded. Part of that is due to Jeff's handi work.
It was fun, we had several people come over and check out the car while we were waiting and on the ride across the river.

he does do good work for what i call a reasonable price. i sure couldn't service a distributor myself. comes back super clean and with what you need for your engine. he even made me a points plate and a pertronix plate and gave me some extra parts for repairs down the road. can't vouch for any of it working though, don't have an assembled engine yet.

Flinkly,

Don't worry, you won't need to vouch for his work. There are about 20 of us here who will.

Just to show you, here is a rebuilt distributor from Jeff that I had him polish (extra) and curve for my new high compression engine.

And yes, you do want the external adjustable wheel on the advance. No wrench timing adjustment of + / - 8 degrees on the fly. Great for tweak as you go with different gas, etc.
