I'm considering changing out the disc pads and rear shoes and was wondering what choices there are. Moss sells ceramic and standard. Other than less dust is there any advantage to ceramic?

The ceramic pads will handle high brake temperatures with less heat fade, provide faster recovery after the stop, and generate less dust and wear on both the pads and rotors. And ceramic compounds provide much quieter braking because the ceramic compound helps dampen noise by generating a frequency beyond the human hearing range.
They also cost more---Keoke--

And, unless they've changed, used to be when the pads were shot, so were the rotors and drums.

Lots of conflicting exchanges concerning them on-line.
Almost all say the rotors and drums must be compatible.

No one really know how to tell, other than check with the OEM vehicle manufacturer.
Most seem to say new rotors before you slap the pads in.

Put them on my wife's car, and nothing I can do can get rid of the squeal.

It's finally after a year or more settled down to "occasional", but not what you'd call happy with them.

Not sure of the pressure needed....I know on old drum brake US cars, put the non-asbestos stuff on, two boots on the pedal won't stop it.
Had to go with softer A-B lining, that did it.

I remember when General Misunderstanding started in with them...and thinned the rotor and drums up (to save weight and get better fuel economy), it was new rotors and drums every brake job.
