Brake wrench

Had to tweak the rear brakes on my 78 B as I had NO parking brake! Couldn't find my $12 Moss wrench and didn't want to chance damaging the adjuster, so made do quite nicely with a 7/16th allen wrench seated in a 1/4" drive 7/16th socket! The 1/4" end slips over the adjuster perfectly.

Just passing this along in case any other dope loses his (or her) brake wrench.

Neat tip! I never gave that one a thought.

I take a 1/4 " drive socket that the other end will fit over my 3/8 drive ratchet and adjust with that.

I've always just used a 1/4" open-end wrench for adjusting my rear brakes; works just fine.

Bet you didn't have a semi-frozen adjuster, Mark! I really needed the long reach of the brake wrench the first time. I was afraid I might round over the square doo-dad with na open end. Would probably work OK now that it is freer. Thanks.

Does everyone adjust them with the wheels on or off? I usually get both wheels off the ground on jack stands and take the wheels off.

"Does everyone adjust them with the wheels on or off?"

I found it easier to reach the LH adjuster with the wheel off as the exhaust gets in the way otherwise, so take both wheels off so I get the same feel on each side.

i just jack the side of the car up until the back wheel is off the ground (with the stock jack). Then adjust and repeat for the other side.
