What can be done - if anything - to eliminate brake squeal on a '63 BJ7?
 
There is a thread on the Austin Healey forum for this. Copper grease on back of pads was a popular suggestion. I have the anti-squeal stick-ons from Moss that did not work at first on my car, but I also have old rotors with new pads. The squeals are lessening as I drive more.
 
They also increase disc wear. Great for racing but if you just like changing pad every once and a while. Ask Moss for their advice on ceramics.
 
I recently installed Moss premium gold ceramic pads and they work fine but squealed initially. I only drive a few hundred miles a year so rotor wear is not an issue. My rotors are from before 1981 when I bought my car.

This does, indeed! Haven't actually seen or driven her yet but John Twist, nearby MG expert, did the inspection and noted the squealing brakes in his report so I'm already looking for remedies. Glad to know that there are several ways to remedy it so not worried about it now. Thanks, all!
 
I used McKay Disc Brake Stop Squeal on the backing plates on my wife's Z-car years ago and it worked.

Also heard undercoat works and a layer or two of duct tape works. All these on the backing plates of course.

Congrats :cheers: I've gone to one of John's tech sessions at Carlisle and watch his Youtube videos. He definitely knows his stuff and if he says it's ok, I'd feel good about it.
 
I just learned that the guy who did the bodywork and paint on my car is Darin Irvine of Northport, MI and that he recently built a Porsche 550 Speedster on a Boxster S platform, creating a unique melding of old style and new technology. So I'm pretty stoked that he likely did an amazing job on my car which I've yet to even see, if he's capable of building a one-off aluminum body and retro interior on a Boxster. Agreed. I wonder what such a car costs to commission? Gotta be pretty significant money.
