brake master cylinder and servo

I was just going to rebuild the master cylinder but then when I took it off, I noticed that the servo is loing bad. I am guessing that the brake fluid had taken the paint off it and it now has some surface rust.

Is it worth the effort to rebuild this parts or should I just suck it up and get new ones.

Is the servo even servicable? I would need to take it apart to clean and repaint it.

There is a shop that rebuilds them, rather inexpensively. Now if I could only find the link. I'll get back to you as soon as I find it. I got the link from someone on this forum.

Thanks 71,

I tried calling Partco from the number I found on Google(513) 471-7000 and it says the number has changed.

Any chance you know of the new one?

Yes they are. I'm the type that will attempt to repair or rebuild just about any part on the car, including engines, transmissions, carbs, hydraulic cylinders, etc, but draw the line at a few things, and one of them is a brake servo.

We used to rebuild them at our place several years ago, and it did require some specialized equipment just to disassmble them. Most of them are twisted together, much the same way that the bezel on the dash intruments holding the glass on. A slight twist, and the lugs disengage. You have to do the same thing with the two halves of the servo. Because of the spring inside, re-assembly becomes that much more difficult, so without the right tooling you can pretty much forget about it. And then there's the parts. None of the common vendors list the diaphram.

If you can find someone to rebuild it, go that route.

As far as the master goes, if you take it apart, and the bore is in good shape, then re-do it yourself. If it's pitted badly, then buy new or have it resleeved and rebuilt.

I use to hone and rebuild brake parts till I had a rear cylinder leak down and had no brakes and didnt find out till I was out on the road, I still remember the feeling when the pedal hit the floor, thank god I was still in the neighbor hood and coasted back to the house, so I dont rebuild brakes any more always new for me

I believe Partco Automotive in Ohio rebuilds these servos.

Partco has closed their doors and sold off their equipment. Try asking for Scott at (260)426-3331 or Try Vanco Power Brake Supply. 800-256-6295 South Gate Ca.

I thought I had better contact info for the shop that bought the Partco equipment other than a first name and phone number. If I find it I will forward it on.

You might also be able to find some of that info on the 6-pack website.

Someone posted a good link to a servo rebuild
web site, within the past ten days. I took
a look at the web site and I thought I had
book marked it. Can't seem to find it.

I think their price was like $65 to rebuild
a TR Girling servo.

I'll try to google the site again.
I know it is out there.

Thanks for the help. I have tried searching the site, but no luck. I will give scott a call but if any one knows of anyone else, I'd be greatful.

Here's the info regarding Partco's closure. Apparently, the owner retired. I made a phone call to the number below, and the guy was eager to help me out. I plan on sending mine in the next few weeks...

Some members have repainted the complete firewall with the engine "in" and it looks better than new; if all you need is paint, I would look for an air brush or a specialized paint shop to do the paint work before I purchased a new servo. On the other hand, I have seen some used servos (not rebuilt) on eBay for around $40 plus freight; that may help offset the cost of a rebuild. Good luck.
