General Tech Brake Maser Cylinder Pushrod Boot Installation Tricks?

Is there an efficient and non-harmful way to put the pushrod boot on a brake or clutch master cylinder? The master cylinders I have worked on all have a washer behind the mushroom headed end of their pushrods. The washer is so large it almost always tears the small center hole in the pushrod boot when you pull it over the washer.

Surely there must be a better method than I have tried. Does anyone have a method they would care to share?

On the earlier cars, you just unscrew the clevis and slide the boot on from that end. I'm thinking that it might go over the clevis easier than the washer even on cars where the clevis doesn't come off.

Thanks Randall. Your answer makes sense and I am embarrassed to say it never occurred to me to push the clevis through instead of the washer since I cannot unscrew the clevis.
