Brake Light Switch Failure

I have installed the new brake light switch and now the brake lights work properly. I also cut open the old switch and found the rubber diaphragm to be fine, so I am assuming that the contacts were not connecting as they should. It was difficult to examine them as I mangled it while cutting open. I also cleaned the white deposits on the brake cylinders and the brake switch junction and will monitor frequently. So the mystery remains I guess. Thanks for all of the feedback.

First thing to check is the pressure relief valve (on block, passenger side, near filter). They usually limit pressure to ~60psi, which you'll usually only see at cold start. It could be stuck closed, though I've never heard of that happening. Next would be the gauge, though I can't think of a reason it would suddenly read high unless is got messed with. Does it go to zero at shutdown?
 
You should use a dab of dielectric grease on the electrical connections (all of them!) to help prevent corrosion from moisture and chemicals. Galvanic corrosion usually needs a bit of assistance from those factors.
